  • Day 1 - Lake Tekapo

Church of the Good Shepherd, Lake Tekapo Lake Tekapo and Mountains Lake Tekapo

Landing at Christchurch Airport delivers much excitement as we gather our bags and head south into the wilds of New Zealand’s South Island.

The Church of the Good Shepard with the spectacular backdrop of Lake Tekapo complete with snow-capped peaks has to be high on the agenda for anyone visiting this region. Arriving at Lake Tekapo we will check in to our Lakeside accommodation then head out for sunset at the picturesque Church of the Good Shepard. The vista of the tranquil lake with snow covered hills in the background never fails to spark the creative mind. After our sunset shoot we shall experience some of the famous New Zealand hospitality.

With our hunger satisfied we may wish to relax for the evening or there is the option to return to the church and lakeside to shoot the advancing Milky Way.

  • Day 2 - Mount Cook

Mount Cook, South Island, New Zealand Hooker Valley Details Hooker Valley Mount Cook Photography Tour, South Island, New Zealand

An adventure in to the heart of the South Island doesn’t get any better than exploring the area around Mount Cook and Lake Pukaki.

The highlight of this trip is the walk up through the Hooker Valley to Hooker Lake. The footbridges and cascading Hooker River offer plenty for us to photograph on-route, with the walk culminating in breathtaking views over the lake to the majestic Mount Cook.

  • Day 3 - Wanaka

The Wanaka Tree Wanaka Details Wanaka Pier The Wanaka Tree in Wanaka

If you have seen photographs of the iconic Wanaka Tree then this is your opportunity to see it for real. We shall be capturing new angles of this old favourite as well as shooting the majestic snow-capped peaks of Mount Aspiring National Park.

Wanaka is also a lovely place to rest for a few hours before we make the journey south to Queenstown.

  • Day 4 - Queenstown and Glenorchy

Glenorchy, New Zealand Glenorchy and Mount Earnshaw, New Zealand Glenorchy Jetty, New Zealand Queenstown, New Zealand

Queenstown is a reminder that we are never too far away from civilisation. We shall stop here for lunch and there will be the opportunity to get some shots of the Remarkables before heading on to Glenorchy.

Amazing scenery surrounds us as we drive around the shore of Lake Wakatipu right down to the end of the lake at Glenorchy. We will explore the wildlife and beauty of the wetlands at Glenorchy as well as the historic jetty with its magnificent mountains as a backdrop.

  • Day 5 - Milford Sound

Boat at Milford Sound, New Zealand Milford Sound, New Zealand Mitre Peak, New Zealand Shooting Milford Sound, New Zealand

Milford sound was carved by glaciers during the ice age and receives on average about 8 meters of rain a year which makes its waterfalls even more stunning as they crash down from as high as 1000 metres adding to the dark waters of the fiord.

As we cruise the 16km from the head of the fiord to the open seas under the shear sides of the surrounding mountain, we shall see plenty of wildlife here so bring your big lens and a keen eye. At dawn we shall shoot the shoreline looking over to the majestic Mitre Peak.

  • Day 6 - Nugget Point Lighthouse & Meoraki Boulders

Nugget Point Lighthouse, South Island, New Zealand Moeraki Boulders, South Island, New Zealand Tekapo Group

If you want to experience the wilder side of New Zealand then the place to do it is Nugget Point. This is one of the most distinctive landforms along this coast with its steep headland and rocky “nuggets” popping up from the sea. There are amazing views over Tokata lighthouse looking out over the Pacific Ocean.

For our last shoot will visit Koekohe Beach and the spectacular Moreaki Boulders. These spherical boulders make for an amazing site with the sun rising behind them. This is our last sunrise before breakfast and an easy drive back to Christchurch for farewells at the airport.
